Yelp Gets 100 Million Unique Visitors In Jan 2013 – Qype Acquisition Helped?
Yelp, SFO based user generated review giant today announced that their website noticed a record (all-time-high) 100 million unique visitors in January 2013. This number doesn’t include the 9.4 million unique visitors from mobile devices. Earlier this month, Facebook launched Graph Search where Facebook highlighted ‘search restaurants’ as one of its core feature. This news from Yelp arrives at the time when Graph Search was seen as a threat to Yelp.
In October ’12, Yelp acquired Europe based user generated review company Qype for $50 Million. At the time of acquisition, Yelp had 78 million monthly unique visitors and Qype had 15 million monthly unique visitors.
Post acquisition of Qype, after two months, now Yelp has hit a record number of 100 million unique visitors in Jan ’13.
Yelp’s Alexa Ranking has also improved in the last three months. As on date, Yelp’s Global Alexa Rank is 215, and in the U.S. its ranked 43.
Yelp has released an infographic segmenting this 100 million traffic data.
Interesting observations from below infographic:
- Among all categories that attracted reviews in Jan’13, Restaurants holds second position (21% review) in the list.
- Travel industry categories put together (Restaurants + Travel & Hotel) tops the list with 25% review share.
- 55% of Yelpers are more likely to have spent $10,000+ on travel in last 12 months. Well, thats a big number.
