5 Steps To Increase Your Facebook Fan Page EdgeRank – Increase Your Post Visibility

In our previous article, we discussed about Facebook’s EdgeRank. The primary objective of Facebook fan page admin is to increase customer engagement, and hence improve EdgeRank for posts. In this article, we have listed various techniques / strategies to achieve this goal. As we had mentioned in the EdgeRank article, no one except Facebook knows the exact algorithm details to calculate EdgeRank. So, below strategies are not a “Facebook Approved” strategy, rather – these are best practices to improve EdgeRank.

Here are the steps to boost your EdgeRank:

1. Post Various Type of Content:
Fan page admin can post various types of content – text, photo, poll, milestone, offer, event, video and link. Among all post type, the most popular type is – Photos. In our own experiment with Travopia, we have learnt that Picture based post gets high reach. Even if you are posting a link, try to post it along with a picture – you will be surprised to see the total reach for that post. Again, as we mentioned in EdgeRank article, a fan commenting on a picture will have different weightage than the same fan commenting on a text post. Depending on the EdgeRank of the post and the user, Facebook chooses to display the post to some fans and hide from the rest. So, the magic is to keep varying the type of content you post. Identify the top 3 post types that has high reach and do more of that.

The content below speaks for itself.

2. Create Practically Engaging Content:
Content is still the king. But, the way it is written matters a lot. Content can make or break a brand. A dull, boring and repetitive-looking content can create aversion towards the brand and hence lose the customer from being a fan. Create content that has a clear call-to-action from the fans. Get as innovative as possible while creating a call-to-action content.

3. Photo Albums Do Magic:
Photo album has this unique feature compared to other content types – the way it is displayed in newsfeed. The first picture is displayed in large size followed by small size pictures – this makes the content to be noticeable among the other post types. Again, try to have a link or call-to-action for every picture in the album – this would further engage the customers.

4. Identify The Sweet Spot:
You can write lengthy content or keep the content really crisp. It depends on the type of marketing / engagement you do with your fans. For some companies, projecting an update as a story might work the best – in this case, customers click the “See More” or “Continue Reading” link which further might count for EdgeRank. For some companies, short status updates might work the best. Companies have to identify what’s the sweet spot that works for their audience. A post length of 90 / 140 / 200 character interests your fans? Identify and focus on the sweet spot.

5. Post Regularly:
Another important parameter to compute EdgeRank is – Time Decay. This simply means that the posts in the fan page should be periodical / regular basis. The other side to this is, don’t post too often because that might annoy the customer and backfire. How often you should post depends on the brand, strategy you adopt, objective of engagement and type of audience. But, its recommended to post at least once in a day. Out of sight is out of mind.
