Advertisement Heat On Airport Security Bin / Tray In India

Advertisement in security bins in airport

We spotted an interesting advertisement trend in India. It is – advertising on the tray in which travellers keep their laptops and place it on the conveyor belt that goes through security check. Earlier (a month back) – the size of tray and type of tray material varied across security checkpoints in an airport. Last week, we noticed that all trays in Bangalore Airport look alike (also the shape), same is the case in Mumbai Airport. We presume the trays in other major airports like Delhi, Chennai, Kolkotta are also now standardized.

What’s more interesting is the advertising pattern. All trays across all security checkpoints in Bangalore Airport features “goibibo” advertisement. Goibibo’s ads are placed on all sides of tray. In Mumbai Airport, all trays across all security checkpoints features “MakeMyTrip” advertisement. There is no clear reason on whether AAI (Airport Authority of India) auctioned the advertisement opportunity on airport trays, looking at the uniform advertisement design – we hope that’s the case.

Advertisement on tray is not something new. For instance, Zappos advertises in the airport trays in JFK airport. But, this trend has pickedup in India now.

Could this be a security threat? Just thinking aloud.
